Using TOPs you can make some tasty dishes for your parrots with an impressive list of ingredients. Here are some of the examples:

TOPs Birdie Crackers

Crackers

1/2 cup ground up TOPs pellets
1/2 - 3/4 cup Spelt, Kamut or Wholewheat flour
1 tsp of ground flax seed
3 tsp water

plus more water to just bind the dough together

Soak tsp of flax seed in 3 tsp in water and let it stand for a few minutes until gloopy.

Mix all the ingredients, including flax gloop well, but don't overmix. Add a little water at a time (about 1tbsp at a time) until all the ingredients are just bound together. Spread on a well oiled baking sheet (I used a pyrex dish) using your hands in a very thin layer and prick with a fork all over. Bake at gas mark 3 (150C) for 25 mins. Let cool for a few minutes. Then turn out onto a chopping board gently. Cut into squares and let cool completely.

If you would like to make them more colourful you can add some beetroot powder, carrot powder, mango powder or any other brightly coloured vegetable or fruit powder.

Because the crackers are baked at quite a low temperature the goodness is preserved better than when higher temperatures are used.

You can freeze the crackers on the day. Defrost as needed by warming it up in the oven for a couple of minutes to retain crunchiness

TOPs Birdie Bread

Tops bread

2 cups ground up TOPs
1 cup ground up rolled oats
1 cup spelt, kamut, triticale or wholewheat flour
2 Tbsp of ground up flaxseed/linseed
2 Tbsp of ground up sesame seeds
2-3 small jars of organic all vegetable baby food (or about a cup of steamed and pureed vegetables like sweet potatoe, carrot, squash, pumpkin)
3 Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
1tsp of caraway seeds
1 tsp of dill seeds
2 tsp of baking powder
2 tsp of baking soda

Enough water to make the dough look like regular cake/sponge dough

Mix all the ingredients together, adding a little water at a time, to make the dough mixable but not watery. Spoon it into a well greased stainless steel or glass cake form. Bake at gas mark 4 (180C/350F) for 50 minutes or until the skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.

Let it cool, cut it into cubes and freeze. Defrost as needed in the fridge overnight, at room temperature for a couple of hours or in a microwave for a few seconds
